Android Cant reach settings/trainer battle/tournament screen

So with the new graphical update, my faulty phone can no longer pull the screen over to access the settings on the right side of the screen. Maybe the right 1/2" of my screen will not work because it fell a good distance. So I can no longer log in or out, or change music, etc.
Any idea if this new non-sticky button mechanic will be permanently a part of the game?
