iOS New phone keeps promting me to link wrong device?

Firsty, please excuse me because this has probably been solved many times I just don't have the time to trawl through all these forums. If this is the case, please link me to the thread where it has been solved.

OK so please bear with me here I'll try to be as simplistic as I can.

Basically I have 2 accounts using the same game center - my iPad and my old phone.
My new iPhone keeps wanting me to link to my iPad account and not old iPhone account even though I have signed out of game center on the iPad and have signed into game center on my new and old iPhone.

I'm not sure what other information you will need to help me but please ask.
