I've noticed a lot of notification I get are incorrect. It will tell me I have a Gold chest unlocked and I won't have any gold chests even in my que. Or I'll get a notification, open a free chest, and shortly get another notification far before the next one is ready.

Same thing is happening to me. I have not looked into it much... I just assume it's a lie when I get notification haha. You might try clearing your game cache in the under manage applications - clash royale. Hopefully that will reset the notifications.
