There's a way to drop cards before the match actually begins. I've seen it done against me and I know how to do it this it's not 100% reproducible.

During the match loading screen before your deck appears just start randomly tapping at the top of the screen and your cards sometimes instantly appear. This gives you the ability to do something like a hog rush a good second or two before your opponent can even defend themselves.

Someone did did that to me during a challenge match this morning with goblins.
