iOS Crashes on iPad in Builders Workshop and Frozen Peaks arena in tourneys

These arenas have more intense animated graphical elements that cause crashes on older (early 2013 ipad mini) devices. The first match in a tourney in these arenas my ipad is fine. By the second or third I notice a growing lag in displaying troops, responding to touch, and also start to notice a lot of frame dropping towards the end of the third match. If I hit these arenas a fourth time in a given one hour tourney, I'm pretty much guaranteed to crash (screen turns black and goes into sleep/hibernate mode) and lose a ton of cups. Frozen peaks arena is by far the worst of the two for some reason; counts as hitting builders workshop at least twice.

Fortunately this never affected me while I was in builders workshop (but that was only shortly after global release), and I've never been in frozen peaks arena to compete for cups (been in leg. since before it was introduced) so I can't say whether this problem only affects tourneys or not.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? Usually closing CR and putting the ipad into sleep mode for a couple minutes fixes it, or closing CR and playing a CoC battle, but in a hotly contested tourney that just isn't an option. Losing cups or gambling on not getting one of these two arenas is really frustrating and cost me a lot of tourney cards and just want others to know and hear if this is affecting other people too, and I've had a lot of back-to-back games in frozen peaks which really kills it.
